This year marks the two hundred year anniversary of Catholic Education in Australia. Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School has recognised this significant milestone in a number of ways in Term Two.

A number of our students attended Mass at St Mary’s Cathedral on the Feast of Our Lady Help of Christians, to celebrate 200 Years of Catholic Education in Australia. The Mass was celebrated by Archbishop Anthony Fisher and was attended by over 170 Catholic school representatives in the Sydney Archdiocese.

We had a number of former teachers and students come to our school assembly to talk to us about the school and what it was like when they attended. We learnt that many of the playgrounds looked very different and the boys played separately to the girls. We also discovered that there used to be a bonfire evening on the bottom playground.

Here are some images of our school from former years.

These images were taken at the blessing and opening of the infants school (now Year 1 rooms, Year 2 rooms, the Art Room, Mr Antico and Mrs Attard’s classrooms) in 1962.

The first photo was taken from the small grass area below the platinum parent drop off

The last photograph was taken from what is now the balcony outside Mrs Harvey’s office. This image looks towards the top playground with the school carpark in the top left of the photograph.
