On the 14th June four students from OLSH Randwick participated in the semi finals of the Botany Randwick Public Speaking Competition. All present were impressed with our four representatives especially the ability of Rosie Robinson and Ella McDonald to speak clearly with passion and commitment. It was obvious that an enormous amount of work had gone into the planning and preparation of the speeches. They drew on credible research sources to substantiate their positions.
14 Catholic primary schools took part in the competition, with 42 students speaking on the day of the Semi-Finals. From the 42 semi-finalists, 13 students were successful in gaining a place in the finals.
The goal was for students to gain greater skills and confidence in their oral presentations and presenting their position on any topic. Parents and carers were able to watch their children speak in person or virtually via Zoom.
As part of their preparation, the students were visited by Marjorie O’Neill, our local MP. Our students had the opportunity to hear about Marjorie’s own experiences in public speaking and ask her questions about technique. Marjorie is one of a number of MP’s who will also be a judge in the grand final.
Both Ella and Rosie have expressed that they are excited to be given another opportunity to speak at the Grand Final. We wish both girls every success and congratulate them on their efforts so far.
